When it comes to healthy hydration, there's a big (but lesser-known) problem: most of the containers we sip water from each day can leach microplastics or chemicals like bisphenols (including BPA) and phthalates into our water.
When we drink from these containers, we aren't just consuming the beverages that they hold– we could also be consuming microplastics from plastic containers, or the not-so-clean particles from can linings that can flake off into drinks. Even the screw-cap tops on aluminum cans and glass bottles can be a major source of contamination if they shed microplastic dust into water.
WaterOuai!'s co-founders sought out to find a better ouai for everyone to sip healthier, cleaner water without compromise. So, WaterOuai! was born.
The Problem: Finding a Healthier Ouai to Drink Water
So why rethink the way you're currently drinking water?
To start, busy lives require hydration–and you shouldn't have to compromise wellness for convenience. And the current convenient options out there were just not up to par with the ouai we want our families to hydrate. When it comes to hydration, many of us turn to single-use plastic water bottles, aluminum cans, and even glass water bottles as a way to stay hydrated on the go. Plastic Water Bottles
Over 100 million (33%) of Americans (and 22 million children) drink water from plastic bottles daily. These plastic water bottles can leach microplastic particles into your water–it's estimated that there are about 26 microplastic particles per liter in the average bottle.
Of those microplastic particles, 90% are nanoplastics, which are so tiny they can slip past the body's natural defenses.
Aluminum Cans and Bottles:
it's important to keep in mind that even alternatives to plastic water bottles and cans labeled as "BPA-free", are not always ideal.
Glass Bottles:
Glass bottles can carry even more microplastics than plastic containers. This is often due to the painted metal caps on glass bottles and the inner plastic seal.
